GW1 will die eventually. ANet will forget the community. It may be like SC and WC3 and live on a very long time, but it'll be real unsupported.

Also, chances are GW2 would be, to some extent, so different from GW1 that if you ported your characters many things would change. Like what if, say, GW2 is a FPS and rangers = snipers.

You're going to make your first character an imported ranger. You're a max lvl sniper and have no idea how to get into it.

Imagine that scenario but with more fantasy/medieval-esque classes.

Yeah, not everyone will be happy no matter what they diside to do. But a poll gets the feel of the community as of right now. Honestly i'm suprized that more people are voting that they have to bring there toons with them..

Personally i am going to give my guys a family last name and have fun with the first names next time around, be it in a GW sequel or in AION later this year. I dont want my same name and characters....

I just wanted to highlight a very good question that stood out from the Bigger thread......... (good god it takes a long time to read thro these big threads)

anyhow thanks for voting...

I am not for a total rewrite of GW and calling it GW2, I would prefer a gradual evolution, smart developers could do that. From my point of view if NCSOFT orphaned GW in favor of GW2 I would not buy GW2 on principle. Same goes if they changed to a monthly billing model.

For those that said Your Chara would be dead, cuz its 100 years in the future.

First this is a Game...a Fantasy game at that.

Second...no I think the other one covered it. LOL

Guess we will see, and actually this poll was a good idea because it will give ANet a heads up on how the current players feel.

Of course we should! But see, if it IS a new story line we shouldn't. Solution? You muse beat the game first before doing a quest to "Unlock" your GW1 Characters.

Someone mentioned another game in which your XP was slashed and items were stolen and later re-gained. I like that idea too.

If we can save armors, skills, items, heroes... name it GW5.

I'd love to play my existing characters, but what do you think 'takes place *hundreds of years* after Prophesies' means. It will be a clean start, new characters, new races, new skills (and some old ones presumably). I don't think there's much question about this.

Nope. Firstly, makes no sense. Secondly, I'm sure they would have a totally different engine than Guild Wars' current build. It would probably be impossible to transfer. If anything I think they'd be able to at least trasnfer the name.

I love my character, yes. I just don't want a new Guild Wars so soon. It'll get boring eventually, but not in a few years from now. ANet knows the time invested into all of our toons, and they know it would be a horribly retarded idea to make a sequal so soon.

I'd say make a sequal in...5-7 years. That sounds safe.

I vote for a fresh start for GW2, however I'd be upset if they ended the original GW series so soon. I was hoping for at least 4 years, similar to a good single game with online play. I think the new OS might have something to do with it. I'd be cautious about GW2, simply because it may only have a short run like GW. All of this is speculative until the 15th at earliest. Hopefully you folks with a subscription will not keep us waiting until we can buy the mag on the 3rd.

I remember you could transfer Diablo2 characters to Diablo2 expansion, but not Diablo1 characters to Diablo2. I wonder if GW2 will be so much more different from GW1 that transferring isn't possible...

One of the big reasons i got into this game was because of the expansion every six months or so with something like 20 planed to come out. and the ability to mold your char over that amount of time.

If that is all taken away not so sure i want to start over with this gp or not.

No way do I want to start all over again. I'm not a PvP character machine that spews out character after character with cheap armours just so that I can own other players in a zillion different ways. I have one character that I'm working on, at the moment and I will not leave him until he's reached as far as I want him to.

Oh yeah, about that time difference, um... Do what every other game does, make a time portal. :P Hey, it's fantasy, right? Ah heck, well if that doesn't go too well, I'd at least like my character to get imported as the descendant of my chacter, with the same equipment, etc.

Another thing I'm noticing...People are saying "I've already invested so much time into this character", "I don't want to have to start over", along those lines.

If they were to make a sequal, it would be a completely different game. You wouldn't be starting over, you'd be starting anew.

Well if GW2 wouldn't be much different than GW1, than why not just add on to the existing saga? And Diablo 2 and it's expansion was...just that. An expansion. It wasn't a new game at all.

(*Note that this is assuming an expansion will be released in a couple years from now)

People just don't want to let go of their characters. This isn't a bad thing at all, it's just a huge warning side telling developers to delay the production of Guild Wars' sequal even further. Does it make perfect sense to not be able to transfer characters? Of course it does. Does it make sense to end Guild Wars so early after all of our hard work? Not at all.

Well, we're all gonna have to when they shut the servers down. Unless you hack the crap out of the source-code, of course. (joke)

But what do you want to keep ?
Runes ? Heroes ? Perfect gold item ? Level ? Titles ? Pvp rank ? Skills ?

What if GW2 is not another chapter like Factions or Nightfall but a new game with a completely different gameplay ?

I hate the idea of losing everything I already have, but I'd probably remake my monk anyway. I better get to keep my names; it'd be grand to have the GW2 account linked to the GW1 account too.

I voted for a fresh start.

I see no real benefit to bringing over lvl20s except to those that want to power play there way through so they can be the first to sell a req8 15^50 noob sword of w/e for a few mill.
